FAIRBORN HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1970

I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, my loving family for less gray hair or a flatter belly. As I've aged, I've become kinder to myself, and less critical of myself. I've become my own friend. I don't chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or for buying that silly cement gecko that I didn't need, but looks so avante garde on my patio. I am entitled to a treat, to be messy, to be extravagant.
I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon, before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging.
Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 AM and sleep until noon? I will dance to those wonderful tunes of the 60 &70's, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love ... I will.
I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set. They, too, will get old.
I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And I eventually remember the important things.
Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when somebody's beloved pet gets hit by a car? But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect.
I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face.
So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver.
As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don't question myself anymore. I've even earned the right to be wrong.
So, to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day(if I feel like it).

MAY OUR FRIENDSHIP NEVER COME APART ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART!

CLASS OF 1970

Hope everybody can relate to this message.

I appreciate everyone's hard work on the reunion.  Even though I did not get to attend I have relived many precious memories through your pictures that you have posted.  I love it that I can still "recognize" most of you :)  I have had 2 deaths within 7 weeks in my husband's family and it has been very hard.  I appreciate Karen Bocko for her prayers for me and my family.  Perhaps, I'll see some of you around Fairborn.  Please tell me "Hi" if you see me and I'll try to do the same for you.  And..... yeah, Doug Creech .... it's amazing how much you look just like one of my brothers!  I always thought you were a crazy guy!  You have that much in common with my brother too!

Take care and perhaps I'll get to see everyone at our 45th!

This idea came to me several days ago.  My idea is for our class (and maybe other classes as well) could do a Flash Dance of Michael Jackson's Thriller at next year's downtown Fairborn (Scairborn) Halloween celebration.  I know.  I know.  We're not getting any younger.  Well, maybe this is a way to turn all that around.  We can meet and break up the dance into manageable segments.  We don't have to professional dancers to do this.  We are the Class of 1970.  We CAN cut the mustard!!   I think our class showed a lot of spunk starting an alumni Halloween party this past October.  How about we go out on a limb and thrill the City!!!   Are you with me?   Pamela S. I was messing around on google yesterday (taking a break from my other messing around research) and decided to try "graduates fairborn high school 1970" and imagine what came up in only .001 seconds! I spent 10,11,12 grades here, having moved from Springfield. I never really melted into or found a "clique" but there might be one or two that might remember me. I 've posted the usual stuff on my profile. I would be interested in refreshing my memory by contacting classmates, whether you remember me or not.

Glyn Thomas - I was in the commisary at Fort Rucker Alabama probably 1975-76, when this guy comes up to me asking "Do you remember me?" Now he did look familiar, but I could not remember... In my head I'm going - basic training - flight school - Vietnam - I'm drawing a blank here - - - I'm Glyn Thomas, we went to high school together! He was a Army Lieutenant, Medical Service Corp, a Pharmacist. I went to the hospital several months later, couldn't find him.

I cannot keep quiet about a book I heard about on Dr. Iu,

Oz, Wheat Belly. Giving up wheat has been a lifesaver. In just a few days, craving for bread has been eliminated. Who knew that whole grains were the enemy of good health? I wish you all a happy and peaceful holiday season that lasts the year round. Love, Pamela P.S. Ted, I need a Smart phone lesson....Bad!

Great site!  Just  reminiscing, wondered if anyone who went to Fairborn Elementary school knew what happened to my old Principal, Howard Cross?  Also, does anyone remember his daughter Kathy and where is she now?

thx,

Kathi Randolph Drake is not "missing". She is on Facebook and lives in Neenah, Wisconsin. Deborah Shera Mack is one of her Facebook friends. I "dated" both of them in Jr High and have fond memories of our times together.

Does anyone know where Ted Harding is?  He is one of my favorite teachers and changed how I think, especially about rules, and how something may be a good fit for some and not others.  I would like to thank him.

I just received my invitation to the 1970 FHS class reunion. Thank you for thinking of an old guy who really enjoyed his two years back in his home town. I was an old geezer by then at age 23. I left education afer the 1977/1978 school year as an assistant principal in Michigan. I have kept contact with some of the people from back then and enjoy catching up on Facebook.

I won't be able to attend the reunion but will always remember my years in Fairborn. I'm always especially saddened when I see obituaries of people from that era.

Best wishes and have a great time, one year too late but the thought is right.

Ed McLoud

Hi Everyone!!! I know I can't be the only one with aches & pains. I wanted to share a FAR OUT product!!! $38 plus change on-line: The Original BED BUDDY Body Wrap. I microwave it for two (2) minutes & WOW does it calm & soothe aching muscles. It can also go in the freezer. It's weighted, similar to a Wrap dentists lay on you for x-rays. I also put it on top of my heated heating pad. I LOVE it!!! I hope this helps someone out there. Love, Pamela. P.S. Mrs. Eleanor Howard, who taught 2nd grade at Five Points Elementary, is still with us!! I have had the pleasure of speaking with her. I remember Jenny Cantrelk & Danny Dyer were in my class then. The rest is a blur.
